Saira is a butterfly flying out over the ocean.
Saira began with butterflies on a forest trek, and the thought of one flying out over the ocean — the idea that you might belong to more than one ecosystem, and never have to choose between them.
The butterfly is a structured piece in its own right, and it detaches. A slot cut through it takes the dupatta, which feeds directly in and holds without pinning. Around it sits embroidered organza, worked with sequins and finished in silver and gold, and the straps adjust to fit.
The meaning grew from there. Like that butterfly, I want the woman wearing her to feel she can live in more than one ecosystem — never only the one she started in.— Juhi
